In a surprising twist, a recent survey has revealed that women find men who are into cryptocurrency less attractive than those who cosplay or collect stamps. Conducted by the Date Psychology blog, the survey sampled 814 individuals, with nearly half being women. The results? Crypto ranked as the ninth-most unattractive hobby for men.
The survey asked women to rate 74 different hobbies on their attractiveness. Only 23.1% of women found crypto appealing, while a third found comic books and cosplaying attractive. This places crypto just above collecting Funko pop culture figures, which took the top spot for the least attractive “nerd” hobby.
Interestingly, when men were asked which hobbies they thought women would find attractive, 13.7% believed crypto would be a hit. However, they were far off the mark. Women rated reading, learning a foreign language, and playing an instrument as the top three most attractive hobbies.
Why the Discrepancy?
The survey’s authors suggest that hobbies should be chosen based on personal enjoyment rather than external validation. This is a crucial point, as choosing hobbies to impress others can lead to less fulfilling experiences.
The Bigger Picture
This survey aligns with an April 2023 Pew Research poll, which found that women are generally more skeptical of investing in, trading, or using crypto compared to men. Only 10% of women had ever traded, used, or invested in crypto, compared to 25% of men. Among those women who had used crypto, nearly 40% no longer held any, versus about 30% of men who had exited the crypto space.
